This April (2023), all 6th grade classes went on a six day trip to Ireland. 6A and 6B resided in a hotel in Charleville and went to school in Kilmallock. The school/teaching system is very different from our usual Austrian system. Lessons are shorter and breaks longer. They have no suchsignificant tests like our Schularbeiten, but one big, country wide test at the end of the year.
But school isn’t the only thing we did on the Emerald Isle! We also visited the Titanic museum, had a city tour of Limerick and visited the Cliffs of Moher. The latter was especially memorable to us, due to the unusually warm weather and cloudless sky we encountered there.
After our trip to the cliffs, most of the group went surfing and the others went hiking to the Burren, a vast karst area in the interior. Both groups recall it as being big fun and an awesome experience.
We also went to multiple pubs, one in Limerick, one in Cork, and we always had a great time there. The atmosphere in these establishments is lighthearted and warm (maybe the alcohol the guests drink are a factor to that).
Over all, we had a most memorable trip which brought a lot of new experiences! Some of us hadn’t flown before, the accent of the people was very new to most, most hadn’t been to Ireland yet. We are all very grateful to have had the opportunity to go on this trip.
